Holy bartender, words cannot describe how incredibly awesome that show was! Dan Cas (recently [and soon again to be] featured on the blog) and I had VIP passes so we met Weezer. That's right who wants to touch me. I said who wants to fucking touch me! (South Park reference for all you losers who don't recognize that). Also, I got to see their sound check and Karl Koch talked to us about the technical side of a Weezer show. Basically, I (and the other 119 VIP pass owners) were bloody royalty. Since I'm so nice and gracious (and not lazy today), I'm gonna give y'all a video of every single song (regular sets) of the night. Here is the setlist:
Sound Check (in random order because I have a bad memory):
1. Cult of Personality
2. The Greatest Man That Ever Lived (Variations of a Shaker Hymn)
3. Jamie
4. Susanne
5. You Gave Your Love to Me Softly (correct me if I'm wrong, Dan)
Meet & Greet:
1. Jamie (acoustic)
Greatest Hits Set (in correct order):
1. Memories
2. Pork & Beans
3. The Greatest Man That Ever Lived (Variations of a Shaker Hymn)
4. Perfect Situation (Old Guy's in it!!)
5. Dope Nose (sorry only a crappy clip of the video is on youtube)
6. Hash Pipe (same for this one, so here's a video from night 1)
7. You Gave Your Love to Me Softly
8. Susanne
9. Jamie
10. Only in Dreams
Pinkerton:
1. Tired of Sex
2. Getchoo
3. No Other One
4. Why Bother?
5. Across the Sea
6. The Good Life
7. El Scorcho
8. Pink Triangle
9. Falling For You
10. Butterfly

That's right. DragonForce. No, I did not learn about them from Guitar Hero, fyi. My cousin showed them to me way before that game came out, so there. Yes, I enjoy it, too, and not just because it's fast, but because it's cool! They definitely put on a great show too. I saw them a couple years ago and had an absolutely awesome time! Authority Zero has got to be one of the most underrated punk bands of today. They write the catchiest hooks of any punk rock band around, period, but for some reason never really seemed to break out like Against Me! and Rise Against did. Full of cool riffs and hooks that won't leave your head, here is "No Regrets".

Fishbone takes every cool genre of music and mashes it all together. So what kind of band are they? A funk-ska-punk-soul-jazz-metal-hard rock band with elements of prog too. This song is a fun song - about sex! Here's "Bonin' in the Boneyard" off Truth and Soul.

Dan's Final Post: The Replacements!
Kids Don't Follow - The Replacements
And now for the final post on Dan Cas week (plus two days). Sorry for the lack of posts I had a bust weekend, not that you care. Anyway The Replacements are one of the greatest rock n roll bands of all time. They've gone through many styles, yet never sold out their sound. Their "Stink - EP" is their hard core punk sound. It's deep, as much as a punk album can be. Enjoy the song, look up more by the band, and thanks for reading.

Dan Cas Day 5: The Foo Fighters!
Rock God Dave Grohl grew up on punk. Hell he used to be in Scream before Nirvana. And while now he's the king of the alt rock scene, every now and then we can see his punk upbringing come out. This track is from the first Foo Fighters album, in which Grohl played every single instrument for every song except one guitar part. That's right, every sound on this track is 100% Dave Grohl. And that's why it's awesome.
[Ian's Note:] Dan is wrong. Dave Grohl is not the king of alt rock - he's the king of all rock!
And here's "Gas Chamber" off Rock Against Bush Vol. 2. I felt like it really needed to be in this post. It's an Angry Samoans cover.

Dan Cas Day 4: The Pixies!
Like Alternative rock? You can thank the Pixies for that. The band is basically directly and indirectly responsable for changing the scene, especially with their softLOUDsoft formula. The Sad Punk is kinda like that in a way too. It starts out punky and jaded, gets a little softer, than picks it right back up. While known for their revolutionary alternative sound thier album (which this is off of) Tromple Le Monde has some good punk tracks, this being the best. Happy listenings.

Dan Cas Day 3: Dramarama!
Anything, Anything - Dramarama
Before I start talking about the song say the band's name. Do it. Isn't it fun to say? Now let's begin.
Angst mixed with anything is awesome. Angst mixed with punk? Even better? You know that frustration you feel when you want something/someone so badly and you'd do anything just to get it/them? Yeah that's what this jingle is about. And it's so truthful and painful. You hear the pain and the promise in the singer's voice as he sings. He's really upset and passionete (I spelt that wrong and I don't care) and that's what makes this song so great. Listen. Now. NOW!

Dan Cas Day 2: Piebald!
Today's punk post won't just feature a song, but an entire album. Why? Because Piebald is totally underrated and needs the exposer. Plus their album "We Are The Only Friends That We Have" is an incredible album that deserves to be taken a look at.
The record starts off with "King of the Road", a great introduction song that gives you a humorous update on the band and mourns their former tour bus. "American Hearts" is the biggest hit off the album and rightfully so. It has so much energy and is great to sing along to. I was lucky enough to see the band perform one of their reunion shows at Bamboozle and this has got to be one of the best songs I've ever seen live. "The Monkey Verses the Robot" is my personal favorite. It sticks it to the man and the work force but is also very fun. It just makes you wanna move and sing.
Other greats off the album include "Karate Chops For Everyone But Us", a standard but great punk song that takes a look at band life, "Rich People Can Breed" a spicy one that mixes hard punk with some softer alternative, and "The Stalker" a hand clapping song that will feel right at home with other songs on this blog. However, the point of the post isn't to review every song (though I'd gladly and I've already done half the album) but to focus on the album as a whole. It's one of the most consistant, well put together albums I've heard. It's edgey, its punk, and its personal. The band put a lot of heart into this one and it shows. Below are a few songs off the album but please check out more.
Rock On. Dan.

Dan Cas Takes Over PRN! Nirvana!
Welcome everyone to Dan Cas Week on Punk Rawk Noize. I decided to give my good friend Ian of the blog a nice weekly vacation. I have my own blog over at thedancas.wordpress.com, where I'm counting down my top 287 songs. We're gonna do it my way this week which means longer posts, some familiar bands with obscure songs, some bands you've never heard of, and some punk classics. And we're keeping it punk all week long.
First off to ease everyone in: Grunge goes Punk. How's this sound for a song: Nirvana and The Screaming Trees covering a Leadbelly song in a surprisingly punk manner. Well it's real. The song is Ain't It a Shame and features Nirvana's Kurt Cobain on vocals, Krist Novoselic on bass, and the Screaming Trees' (and Queens of the Stone Age's) Mark Lanegan on guitar and Mark Pickerel on drums (yay Marks!) The song actually does have some good values. Like why beat your wife on a Sunday when you have the rest of the week? Good point. Happy Wife Beating Day Off, man. Enjoy the song.

Only Crime!
Featuring Russ Rankin of Good Riddance, Zach Blair of Rise Against, and Bill Stevenson of The Descendents, here's Only Crime with "Take Me" off Virulence.
Their cds are usually only $2-$3 used at a record store and they are so worth it.

Weezer!
Most people don't think of Weezer as a band that could ever be considered punk. Well, to them I show this outtake from the Blue Album, "Paperface".

Rancid!
Rancid is one of the coolest bands ever. They formed after Operation Ivy broke up and kicked ass from their very first song and ever since. Here is "Maxwell Murder". This is the craziest bass solo I've ever heard.

The Dead Milkmen!
There aren't many cooler band names than The Dead Milkmen. They're one of Brendan Kelly's favorite bands too. Here's "Instant Club Hit".

Pour Habit!
Cool new band that's touring with Pepper right now. Gonna see them with Dan Cas in like two weeks. Awesome song. Short sentences without much of a point are cool. Here's "Institution" off Suiticide.

The Misfits + AFI + NoFX + Metallica = ?
"Last Caress." Originally by the legendary Lodi, NJ horror-punks, The Misfits, the song is typical Misfits material, with a strong Ramones influence, howling vocals, and '50s horror movie style lyrics.
And now AFI's version.
And now NoFX's version.
And finally, Metallica's version + their cover of "Green Hell."
Fourplay today. What comes tomorrow?

Shame In Dem Game!
The what happens when the world's best ska-punk band collaborates with one of hardcore's best vocalists? Awesomeness. Here is a live performance of HR's "Shame in Dem Game" by Sublime and HR off Everything Under the Sun, Sublime's box set.
For those of you who don't know, HR is the lead vocalist of D.C. Rasta punks, Bad Brains. Bad Brains practically invented hardcore way back when and are still considered one of, if not the, best hardcore punk band of all time. Everybody knows Sublime from "Santeria" and "What I Got", but this box set shows a whole different side of them. They cover Minor Threat and the Descendents on the box set as well as many other bands too. I would definitely check it out.

Toots and the Maytals!
Every once in a while, I need a day to just slow down and relax. On those days, I just sit back and listen to the easy pleasing music of Toots and the Maytals - '60s and '70s ska. They were incredibly important in the reggae and ska movements in Jamaica and all over the world. Here is "Pressure Drop" off the soundtrack for The Harder They Come starring Jimmy Cliff.

Operation Ivy!
The second best ska-punk band ever (Sublime's #1 without a doubt), Operation Ivy perfectly blended 80's hardcore with 2 tone ska. Here is "Unity" off their only full-length album, Energy.

Take A Stance!
Easily the best song on Bad Religion's new album, "The Resist Stance" is punk rock at it's best. It's fast, witty, politically charged and anthemic. I picked up the new album yesterday around 9:30 and pretty much listened to it non-stop since. I can't wait to see them with Jake Katz next month. Guess what, everybody, Dead to Me unveiled their fall tour dates and they play the same night as BR. Both bands mean a lot to me and I still have not recovered from that initial wtf, Dead to Me? moment when I read the date. And it's with the Flatliners too! Oh well. BR will be great anyway and Off With Their Heads and the Aggrolites are opening (but the Bouncing Souls skipped this date, which is closest to New Brunswick [again, wtf?])
RIP Greg Giraldo, roasts will never be the same without you.

The Flatliners!
The new Flatliners 7" comes out today, so here is their song "Monumental" from their brand new Monumental 7". This is an awesome band from Canada (just like Propagandhi) and are barely old enough to buy a beer. This song sounds pretty Gaslight Anthem-ish, but they have about a bazillion different sounds. Check 'em out.
Alright, NCIS is almost on so I gotta go. See ya'll later.
